June 26 Poland Personally by Tim Smith

By Tim Smith

Yesterday, June 26, 2022 was our first full day in Warsaw. We begin our day with a visit to the JCC where we were educated on its numerous functions, both for the local community as well as the Ukrainian refugees of the current war of Russian aggression. Later we visited The Emanuel Ringelblum Jewish Historical Institute where I learned how little I truly know about the subject of the Holocaust. We specifically learned about Emanuel Ringelblum and his efforts, along with countless others to document the effects of the Warsaw Ghetto and later, the genocide committed by the Nazis. The evening culminated with dinner at the hotel, where we had the honor of hearing Anna Bikont speak of her newest book. The events of the day made me realize (more clearly) the importance of providing witness, and now, as we listen to the speakers and step foot in these important places the responsibility we now carry to do the same.
