Ramat HaGolan and authentic experiences

Day 10 | 2022 Children’s Village Teen Volunteer Program

Today we went to Golan Heights. We went up to the heights and when we got out there was a lovely sign that said “watch your step, beware of landmines.” It was very inviting. We overlooked the small hill and saw black soldier cutouts down below. They symbolized Israeli soldiers, who used guerilla warfare to fight off the Syrians. Then we went into the soldier trenches and felt the authentic experience.

After emerging from underground, we got back on the van and sang some karaoke. Then we went to the De Katerina chocolate boutique. After watching the short walkthrough of the factory, we created our own chocolates! We were given white, milk, and dark chocolate, and espresso and caramel fillings. There was also an array of toppings we could use to decorate them. We also got fun hats to complete the entire experience.

Then we placed them in the fridge and let them set. They were absolutely scrumptious. We then returned to the village and had lunch.

After eating, we headed to our mishpactonims. Many of our michpacton children headed to the basketball courts and we played a communal game. Sadly, my team suffered a tough loss, but overall we all had fun. Then we ate dinner with them and said goodbye for the day. Tomorrow we go home even though none of us want to. It’s been such an incredible trip and we’ve all learned so much from it. We will remember this experience for the rest of our lives.
