Finally! I took the famous float in the Dead Sea. While I was floating around with hands and feet in the air, I found myself thinking about my first grade class this past year. We studied solids, liquids, and non-Newtonian fluids. We read a Dr. Seuss book about Oobleck which turned out to be both a solid and a liquid. The Dead Sea felt some what like this Oobleck that I made with the students. It was such a fantastic moment. Im excited that I can finally talk about it with my students who have been telling me how exciting it is to experience. I was also thinking about my fourth graders who studied buoyancy during our water unit this year. How great would it be to take a field trip to the Dead Sea to demonstrate how salinity levels effect an object’s buoyancy! This is truly an experience and life long memory that would not have been possible without Classrooms Without Borders.
