We arrived early yesterday afternoon in Warsaw and immediately met up with the early arrivals from CWB at the Poland Museum of Jewish History. Met a small group including Tsipy Gur, the founder of CWB, and went on a two hour tour of the museum learning about the history of the Jewish population in Poland over the last 2000 years. The waves of anti-Semitism that would rise and fall with the economic and political changes in the country were crazy.
By the end of the tour my head and emotions were spinning. We returned to the hotel to regroup and digest what we had just learned.
After a two hour rest, we came back together and visited a Polish restaurant Restauracja Dom Polski for a wonderful dinner and talk by Susanna from Forum for Dialogue, who talked about her mission to strengthen relations between Poland and the Jews as well as the role the program plays in educating students about the Holocaust.
I came away feeling that my work in teaching my students about the results of anti-Semitic views can never stop. I also understood how important it is to never stop learning and sharing insights about the Holocaust with future generations to ensure it is never forgotten.
