We started the day off with going to Connected to the Soul to pack bags of beets and sweet potatoes for families in need. These bags of food will go to 8,500 families a week and thousand more families during high holidays. Our tour guide Tomer told us about a guy who drove a brand new Mercedes and asked for bags of food. When Tomer asked about why he was picking up food, the man explained that he picked up the food for families who were too embarrassed to go and pick them up. We then got back on the bus, and drove to a high school in Karmiel, Adam Chevra v’Teva, where we got a tour by their students and saw the differences between our schools in Pittsburgh and Adam Chevra v’Teva. After the tour, we went to see the Holocaust to Revival memorial, where we reflected on our thoughts after our tour of the high school and we got a brief history lesson about the memorial and Israel.
After all of our activities, we went to our Mishpachtonim to spend quality time together and get to know each other more. I went to the petting zoo with my family where I saw snakes, hamsters, mice, rabbits, goats, bearded dragons, horses, donkeys, and birds. Kay had her nails painted by a girl in her family, and they ate dinner together. Emma made bracelets and went to the playground with the little kids in her family. Dahlia said that she “hung out with the cool kids of the village.” Wesley played soccer on the pitch and cooked with his family. Aidan played soccer, basketball, and danced with his family. Natalie played Fifa with her family on the Xbox. Kates’s family made her her favorite meal: pizza!! Max annihilated Wesley and his family in a game of soccer 7-3! He also played Just Dance! Mimi made a poster with her family, and played a heated game of Uno and also ended the night with some dancing! Overall, we had a good day, and we can’t wait for tomorrow!
