Children’s Village Teen Service Trip – Rachel Becker

Monday March 24, 2014

Today I woke up around 7:00 to meet the kids from the Shoham family at the bus station to say goodbye. It was a pleasant surprise as none of them were expecting me after our emotional goodbye yesterday. It was very surreal and emotionally challenging pulling out of the gate and waving goodbye to the village but there is a part of me that knows I will go back someday, hopefully next year if I get the chance. We left the children’s village and drove for roughly three hours until we arrived at a gas station rest stop to grab some Ice cream. It was funny because I had fallen asleep for the drive so when I woke up, the scenery has drastically changed, it was like 30 degrees warmer and there was sand and a camel parked outside of the gas station. From there we got back on the bus and drove to the Ahava oil factory, where all of the Ahava oils in the world are manufactured. Then we went to the Dead Sea and floated in the water which was the coolest sensations ever. I wish all oceans had the same solubility. I felt so clean afterwards, my skin was soft and oily and I felt really healthy for some reason. I had quite a few cuts and bruised on my legs which burned but it was good for me. I gave myself a mud bath afterwards over near where the quicksand was. I checked multiple things off of my bucket list today.
