Last year, young Jewish professionals discovered modern Germany by traveling with Classrooms Without Borders (CWB) on the very successful inaugural program, Germany Close Up. In 2014, CWB again invites young Jewish professionals to see modern Germany and how it has been dealing with its history.
This year’s trip, slated for Aug. 3-14, will be another excellent opportunity for Jewish professionals up to age 39 to experience Germany in a personal way. The trip focuses on Berlin and includes excursions to Heidelberg, Speyer, and Worms.
Through a scholarship sponsored by the German government, Germany Close Up and CWB subsidize all but $1,350 of the cost of the 12-day trip.
The trip will explore the Holocaust, including a visit to a former concentration camp. Germany Close Up will also give participants the opportunity to meet with officials of the German Federal Foreign Office to dialog about German-American relations, Jewish Berlin past and present, Berlin’s place in a united Germany, and German-Israeli relations.
Participants will experience Berlin’s multicultural life; visit the former East Germany; and tour the Jewish Museum Berlin, the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, and other special historical sites and cultural venues. The trip includes a chance to speak with prominent members of the local Jewish community, students and faculty from Humboldt University of Berlin, and others in German political life and social movements.
To be a part of this special opportunity, see details and registration materials on the CWB website.
