CWB DEBUTS FILM AT PITTSBURGH JEWISH ISRAELI FILM FESTIVAL

CWB will premiere Farewell, Herr Schwarz, a must-see film, in Pittsburgh on March 30-31 as part of JFilm: The Pittsburgh Jewish Film Forum’s Pittsburgh Jewish Israeli Film Festival. Winner of the Haifa International Film Festival’s Best Documentary Award, Farewell, Herr Schwarz is a stunning look at the Holocaust’s grip on three generations.

The film is a riveting documentary about a sister and brother, Michla and Feiv’ke Schwarz, who missed re-meeting after the Holocaust, in Lodz in 1945. Instead, they went in separate directions. This affected the family of each person for generations to come.

Michla migrated to Israel to begin her family. Feiv’ke ended up in East Germany, where he became “Peter,” married a German woman, and lived in the former concentration camp where he had been imprisoned.

The movie is also the compelling story of their children, faced with silence about their parents’ suffering, and their grandchildren, who confront unanswered questions from the past. Farewell, Herr Schwarz was directed by Yael Reuveny, the granddaughter of Michla Schwarz. The film is in German, Hebrew, and English and presented with subtitles.

Director Yael Reuveny will speak following both screenings.
