For the first time on a Poland Personally Study Seminar, CWB will need two buses: A record number, 80 people, will join the trip led by Dr. Tsipy Gur, two Holocaust survivors, and other CWB scholars June 29-July 7.
This year’s trip will include a group of teachers from public and parochial schools in Wheeling, West Virginia. The superintendent of the city’s Catholic schools will be among the travelers as will 21 students, four of whom are from Wheeling-area colleges.
The trip will also include teachers and students from Pittsburgh Public Schools (CAPA, Allderdice, and Colfax) and the Manchester Academic Charter School and teachers from Woodland Hills, Quaker Valley, Winchester Thurston, and Sewickley Academy.
In fact, the trip roster is already full, with a waiting list of teachers.
The Poland Personally Study Seminar program encompasses a millennium of Jewish life in Poland, focusing on the history of the Holocaust. In addition to enjoying Polish culture, participants will meet with members of Poland’s Jewish community and government officials.
Similar to CWB’s Israel Study Seminar, the Poland Personally Study Seminar gathers participants beforehand for vital lessons in preparation for what they will experience in former concentration camps and as they visit museums and historical ghettoes, memorials, cemeteries, and villages. CWB provides the teacher-travelers with a resource book and works with participants after the seminar to help them translate their experiences into the most effective classroom and community lessons possible.
