This morning the educators and students walked through parts of Warsaw, a city that was 85% destroyed during the war. The wealth of archived historical information allowed us to learn how the Warsaw Ghetto eventually contained up to 450,000 Jews within the brick walls that cut off freedom for its inhabitants. We discussed the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising and how many Jews fought bravely against the Nazis.
In the afternoon we visited Treblinka. Standing on ground in which thousands of people lost their lives was indescribable. The contradiction of the greenery and standing on the earth on which we knew that Jews had been brutally murdered was moving and emotional. Our group conducted a meaningful memorial service to those who lost their lives.
In the evening we enjoyed exploring the old city of Warsaw. Altogether, it was an amazing day.
