Day 4 – Letters from the Children’s Village 2018

By Samuel Freudenberg

Today we ventured to Akko and Rosh Hanikra, near the border of Lebanon. Rosh Hanikra is a stunning area on the coast, where the cave has been shaped by the water. The crystal clear water seeps through the cave, which is incredible to see. We had time to walk around the beautiful cave. We watched a quick movie at Rosh Hanikra about the rock and how it formed, and learned that the main tunnels where man-made, meant for a train. The grottos, however were all natural. At the border of Lebanon, we had the privilege of speaking with a lieutenant who protected the border. According to him, they switch where they are stationed every 4 months, and that this group would be protecting the Gaza Strip next. We took a picture with him and then drove to Akko. In Akko, we had a quick falafel lunch before wandering through the shuk, a large market. It had loads of food, clothing, toys and more. Then we took a really fun boat ride on a “party boat”. After a horse-driven carriage ride back to the car, we went back to the village. During our free time, a Druze from the Druze village came to visit us. His name was Alaa and he stayed with us until late tonight. After a little break, it was back to our amazing families in the village. We returned for an insightful meeting with Tsipy and Alaa, right before Alaa left. Akko and Rosh Hanikra were absolutely stunning, and today was another great day.
