Day 4 – Letters from the Children’s Village Teen Service Trip

Hello all,

Day four of our trip was an adventure in itself. We woke up at the crack of dawn to begin our journey to Sefad, an ancient town 30 minutes away from the village in Karmi’el. Here we were able to walk around the old town which was breathtaking. Before getting stuck in a Bar Mitzvah where the family was dancing and singing through the streets of the small town, we got to taste some of the local homemade cheese of Sefad. We also were able to go to a candle factory where beautiful candles where made right in front of us. After, the girls and Ben got to practice their negotiating skills while buying jewelry around the town.

We proceeded to go back to the village where Gabby, Layne and Ben gave out gifts to their Mishpaktons. The kids couldn’t control their excitement because they do not get much and any little thing makes them very appreciative. It was so nice to see their reactions and how happy they were to something very simple gifts that would mean not much to any of us kids. We spent the rest of the afternoon with our Israeli families. With this, Gabby had a going away party for one of her girls who was returning to her biological parents. (A few – maybe a little more – tears were shed.)

At 6:30 we all drove to the movie theatre near Haifa to watch the movie American Sniper with the teens of the village. Afterwards, we went out for pizza and hung out with the high schoolers. It was really interesting to see how similar the Israeli high schoolers were to us. The kids at the village are very similar to all of us and the only difference is that we got lucky with you amazing parents and are very fortunate to get a lot of stuff.

We are all getting so much closer and love spending time with each other
                                 Best,
                                    Anatea
