Commitment to Respectful Discourse

As a participant in this seminar, I commit to fostering an environment of respectful discourse throughout the entirety of the program. This includes engaging in conversations with openness, curiosity, and a willingness to consider diverse perspectives. I will communicate thoughtfully, listen actively, and contribute to creating a safe and inclusive space for all participants. I acknowledge that I have read and understand these norms, detailed in the attached link, and agree to comply with them for the duration of the seminar. I recognize that adhering to these standards is essential for meaningful dialogue and shared learning.

Post-Seminar Commitment Contract

Below is a list of ideas for post-seminar projects you can do to fulfill your post-seminar commitment. **Subsidized educators are required to complete Witness in the Living Room and two other projects of their choice.** Everyone else is required to complete Witness in the Living Room and one other project of their choice. Host a Witness in the Living Room session (required for all seminar participants)

EDUCATORS: Check all of the options that seem interesting to you. At least one option is required. (Note: you do not need to make a final choice of project until after travel)(Required)

Enhance an existing Holocaust unit or lesson with a new perspective and/or added information, and upload to our online Curriculum Support Center

Create a new unit or lesson relating to the Holocaust, and upload to our online Curriculum Support Center

Compile an annotated list of teaching and learning resources and materials to share with your colleagues and our online Curriculum Support Center

Write an interdisciplinary unit plan on the Holocaust or Civil Rights

Create a new elective course in your school

Design a Google Earth virtual travel project for your students

Compile student’s works on Holocaust or Civil Rights topics and display them in your school or community center

Design an illustrated calendar or timeline with historical dates, photos and annotations to use in class. Share on our Curriculum Support Center!

Invite survivors to your school, interview them, and write their stories in a publication

Turn your classroom into a genocide learning center

Compile a list of quotes from famous or not famous people that bring history to life, and use them as writing prompts

Recruit for future CWB seminars and programs by planning an open house at the school and speaking with administrators

Arrange a pen pal or twinning connection with a school in Europe, Israel or the US.

Lead or facilitate an educator’s workshop about your seminar experience at your school and/or at a teaching conference

Write a letter to the editor or article in your town and/or school newspaper

Create an annotated scrapbook of the study seminar, complete with quotes and photos

Blog while traveling, interviewing your travel companions and documenting their stories along with their photos in your blog

Conduct research and write a book (about a topic related to your seminar experience)

Take photos during the seminar and write an informative series of post with them on social media platforms

Write and publish a newspaper article documenting war years, events, and people; or about tolerance, respect, and diversity

Create a photography exhibit

Write a play or vignette

Create a podcast

Write poetry, songs, haikus, and/or sonnets

Create a PowerPoint presentation or Prezi about your experience

Create a sculpture or other three-dimensional work of art

Create a video about the seminar
