It’s a wonderful day in the neighborhood. As we continue to become immersed in Ancient Greek culture, the history of the Greek people is really very intriguing. A people obviously well-versed in architecture and math, this cradle of democracy was a blend of real people and mythical characters who were often violent and immoral. They fought; they killed; they sought revenge!
Today, we visited the Agora in Athens, an integral part of the classic Greek city-state. A marketplace and site of government, the Agora provided a meeting place for ancient Greeks. I continue to marvel at the ability of the ancient Greeks to create architectural wonders that have quite literally withstood time. Avi’s timeline has provided a context for when things occurred, especially the confluence and interconnections of the Greek and the Ottoman Empire, the cultures of the Greeks and Romans; the ebb and flow of the Christians, Muslims, and Jews.
The food has been spectacular: fresh, succulent, tasty and artfully presented. We have already run the gamut from the hotel breakfast to a five course gourmet dinner to sampling dishes at a local Taverna. Each day brings a new adventure. As Josh said, “Expect the unexpected!” Mr. Rogers would be proud!
