INSIDE ISRAEL STUDY SEMINAR SUPPORTS EXPANDED GROUP OF TEACHERS

For the first time, Inside Israel – CWB’s Israel Study Seminar – will include not only teachers from the Pittsburgh region, but also educators from Wheeling, West Virginia, a new CWB community.

Teachers participating in this year’s seminar are from the Pittsburgh High School for the Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA), Bethel Park High School, Winchester Thurston School, Sewickley Academy, Shady Side Academy, The Kiski School, Valley School of Ligonier, and The Ellis School.

As past participants have testified, this study seminar, scheduled for June 15-27, is a life-changing experience. The seminar changes travelers’ perspectives of Israel, modern and ancient, as they encounter it in all its astounding variety.

Participants gather with CWB scholars for several months beforehand. They prepare carefully to make the most of what they will encounter and to be able to bring effective lessons back to their classrooms. Each participant receives a resource book that includes timelines, maps, historical documents, statistics, and thematic articles relevant to each day’s activities.

Teachers who travel with CWB agree: There is no substitute for firsthand experience as the basis of creating or enhancing a program of Israel studies for their schools and communities. Israeli history, culture, politics, and archaeology provide the framework. CWB’s instructive travels include study sessions on the ground in Israel as well as meetings with Israeli citizens of many stripes – activists, community leaders, and peer educators.

CWB works with participating teachers after their return to help them formulate the most effective classroom responses to all they have experienced.
