During the summer, educators and students from the Wheeling area completed the interview and application process for the Poland 2016 study seminar. The 10 educators chosen are from public, private and Catholic high schools and middle schools. The 14 high school students are from public, private and Catholic schools in the Greater Wheeling Area. Arrangements are underway for the participants to attend study sessions at Wheeling Jesuit University (WJU) with Jeff Rutherford, PhD, a Professor of History at Wheeling Jesuit University and alumnus of CWB’s 2014 Poland Study Seminar.
Upcoming events for the Wheeling area include a lecture series by Marion Blumenthal Lazan, Holocaust survivor and author of Four Perfect Pebbles, at several middle schools, as well as a presentation and book signing event in early November, free and open to the public. Kristallnacht will be remembered in a special community program coordinated with Temple Shalom and St. Michael’s Catholic Church. The commemoration will feature a performance of Etty, a one-woman theatrical play adapted and performed by Susan Stein based on the diaries and letters of Etty Hillesum.
