How do we preserve the memories of the souls who perished at the site of Treblinka? The memorial we traveled to today cannot in its entirety speak to the lives erased by the horrors of the Holocaust. For me, the jagged edges combined with quiet singing of birds, and the ever present humming of bees creates a somber realization of the fragility of our collective memory. Each of us today saw a site that evoked a strong emotional response.
I saw tears, holding of hands, and quiet gestures of comfort that allowed us to process today in our own way; with an understanding that we travel on this journey both as a collective group, and as distinct individuals whose narratives may vary.
We all embrace a desire for creating a world where Never Again is more than an inscription but a reality that we must maintain. This group has quickly come to support each other as our journey begins. We have shared our stories, our hopes, and our fears without truly knowing each other, but know that this journey would not be possible without the support of each other.
