Underground water hike?!?

This morning we put on water shoes, tucked our shorts up high and crammed any fear of claustrophobia down as we entered the 2700 year old water system in the city of David. Tucked between two groups of loud summer camp kids, we traveled carefully through the dark, amazed at how cold the water was (at some points up to our knees!). More astounding were the smooth walls ( waterproof plaster from thousands of years ago still holding strong) in the narrow channel we worked through. During the hour and a half hike (those fore mentioned kids blocking out swift progress), we came out through the sewer systems right at the corner of the western and southern walls of the Temple Mount. The air was fresh, the sun was hot, and we were all happy to have made the trip!
