LESSON PLAN OVERVIEW

This lesson sets the context for the “Journey with Howard Chandler” examining the Jewish communities in Poland before World War II. Howard’s home town of Wierzbnik was one of thousands of Jewish communities known as shtetls where Jews were either the majority or a minority living among Christians. Wierzbnik was near the larger town of Starachowice with industries which employed Polish workers. Since World War II, Wierzbnik was merged with Strachowice to become Wierzbnik-Starachowice.
