Final Thoughts by Julia Mastro

Today’s most impactful visit was the train station memorials.  Seeing the imprints of the hands of adults and children along with the statue of a man with 2 children hit me hard.  I cannot imagine the desperation the parents and children must have felt.

One of the best parts of this seminar has been the collaboration I have had with my fellow teachers.   I have a notebook full of books, movies, ideas and contacts I will use when putting together my units for next year!  This seminar has given me a deeper understanding of the holocaust and has been one of the most valuable professional development opportunities I’ve ever had the chance to participate in.  I am excited to share my experience with the student council I advise to come up with a community service project for our school in honor of the righteous people who were upstanding during the mass murder of the 30s and 40s in Europe.
